The slow, lazy drumming from John Densmore hypnotizes its listeners through the low hiss of the recording. Listening to Riders on the Storm for the first time made me sit up and take notice. How could a band be this cool in the 1960s?

Led by the groundbreaking performances of singer Jim Morrison, The Doors changed the course of music and concerts forever. This band was responsible for huge hits like “Break on Through” and “Light My Fire,” while breaking all the rules and making inebriation cool. Unfortunately, the adventure came out an end with the death of Morrison in 1971. They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in ‘93, inducted into the Grammy Awards Hall of Fame, as well as being named one of the “Top 100 Artists of All Time” by Rolling Stone. Sheesh.
